“ใครว่าเล่นเกม ทำอาชีพ ทำเงินไม่ได้” เกมเป็นสื่อบันเทิงที่ได้รับความนิยมอย่างมากและมีความต้องการมากขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ เพราะมีอุปกรณ์ในการเล่นที่เข้าถึงง่าย สามารถเล่นผ่านมือถือ ผ่านทางออนไลน์หรือสตรีมได้ง่าย ๆ โดยไม่ต้องใช้แผ่นซีดีเหมือนแต่ก่อน อีกทั้งยังมีเกมที่สร้างให้เล่นฟรีและมีราคาที่ถูกลง ในปัจจุบันมีเครื่องมือหรือโปรแกรมในการสร้างเกมที่เข้าถึงง่ายขึ้น ทำให้เราสามารถสร้างเกมของตัวเองไม่ยากเหมือนในอดีต ดังนั้นอาชีพนักออกแบบเกมและพัฒนาเกมจึงมีความเปิดกว้างมากขึ้น 

การออกแบบเกม (Game Design) เป็นกระบวนการสร้างและออกแบบเกมเชิงโต้ตอบ มุ่งเน้นทั้งทักษะความคิดสร้างสรรค์และด้านเทคนิค ดังนั้นหลักสูตรการออกแบบเกมจะทำให้เราได้เรียนรู้ตั้งแต่หลักการพื้นฐานในการออกแบบเกม กลไกของเกม การโต้ตอบของผู้เล่น การออกแบบเรื่องราว การเล่าเรื่อง ตัวละคร และบทสนทนาที่น่าสนใจ การสร้างเนื้อหาเกม (เช่น สภาพแวดล้อม ฉากประกอบ ตัวละคร) การเขียนโปรแกรม การออกแบบเสียง และการออกแบบส่วนต่อประสานกับผู้ใช้ รวมไปถึงการทดสอบและการผลิตเกม 

การพัฒนาเกม (Game Development) เป็นกระบวนการสร้างและพัฒนาเกมในส่วนของการเขียนโปรแกรมต่าง ๆ ซึ่งนักพัฒนาเกมคือเป็นผู้ที่รับไม้ต่อจากนักออกแบบเกมมาทำให้เกมนั้นออกมาเป็นจริง หลักสูตรการพัฒนาเกมจะช่วยให้เรามีความเข้าใจในเรื่องการออกแบบเกม การทำให้ภาพเคลื่อนไหว การเขียนระบบการเล่น รวมไปถึงพัฒนาทักษะ Soft Skills เช่น การสื่อสาร การคิดอย่างเป็นระบบ การคิดเชิงเปรียบเทียบ การทำงานเป็นทีม และการคิดอย่างสร้างสรรค์ 

ทักษะที่จะได้จากการเรียน  

ความคิดสร้างสรรค์ ทักษะสำคัญที่ต้องมีในการออกแบบเกม เพราะทักษะนี้จะช่วยให้เราได้สร้างเรื่องราวใหม่ ๆ ตัวละคร และฉากที่น่าสนใจให้ผู้เล่นได้สนุกสนานและเพลิดเพลินไปกับเกม นอกจากนี้ความคิดสร้างสรรค์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเปิดรับแนวคิดใหม่ ๆ จะช่วยให้เราได้รวบรวมและข้อเสนอแนะคำวิจารณ์ที่เป็นประโยชน์ในการออกแบบและพัฒนาเกมให้ดียิ่งขึ้น 

การสื่อสาร หนึ่งในทักษะที่สำคัญที่เราจะต้องอธิบายกระบวนการคิด แสดงความคิดเห็น เพื่อที่จะได้ทำงานร่วมกับผู้อื่นได้ดี ซึ่งการสื่อสารที่ในนี้ไม่เพียงแค่การพูดเท่านั้น แต่ยังรวมไปถึงการเขียน เพราะนักออกแบบจะต้องเขียนโครงเรื่อง เอกสารในการนำเสนอที่จะต้องอธิบายข้อกำหนดหรือฟังก์ชั่นในเกมเพื่อให้คนในทีมและผู้เกี่ยวข้องเข้าใจตรงกัน 

การทำงานร่วมกับผู้อื่น กระบวนการสร้างเกมนั้นไม่ได้ทำเพียงคนเดียว มีทีมและแผนกต่าง ๆ ที่ทำงานควบคู่กันไปเพื่อให้มั่นใจว่าเกมจะเสร็จสิ้นตรงเวลา สำหรับนักออกแบบเกม เราต้องคำนึงถึงว่างานของเราส่งผลต่อทีมโดยรวมอย่างไรเพื่อที่ตัวเกมจะได้สร้างออกมาเป็นอย่างดี
