In this article, P’Sa One Education shares her experience returning to Australia after nearly two years of border closure. This time, she had the opportunity to visit Monash University in Melbourne during the Monash Open Day 2022 held in early August.
Get to Know Monash University
Before diving into the experience of visiting each campus, let’s take a quick look at what makes Monash University stand out.
Monash University is a large institution with 6 campuses in Australia and 5 international campuses in Malaysia, China, India, Indonesia, and Italy. It offers programs across 10 faculties, including:
- Art, Design and Architecture
- Arts
- Business
- Education
- Engineering
- Information Technology
- Law
- Medicine
- Nursing and Health Sciences
- Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Science
As of 2022, the university has over 85,000 students, including more than 30,000 international students, making it one of the most popular choices for international study in Australia.
Monash is also a member of the prestigious Group of Eight (Go8), Australia’s leading research-intensive universities. Despite being relatively young (around 64 years old), it has built a strong global reputation, with over 430,000 alumni across more than 170 countries.
In Australia, all 6 Monash campuses are located in Melbourne. Let’s explore what each campus is like in the next section.
Monash University Campus Tour
📍 Parkville Campus
The first campus visited was Parkville, located close to the heart of Melbourne. It takes less than 15 minutes by public transport to reach Melbourne CBD from this campus. Parkville Campus is home to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences only. If you’re interested in this field, Monash is definitely a top choice, it’s currently ranked No.1 in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022) 😊

Interesting programmes include: Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) & Master of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science, Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science (Honours)
Experience at the campus: What stood out most about this campus is how well it supports learning. Most classrooms are not very large, making it easier for lecturers to interact closely with students. Students sit in groups of around six per table, each with their own laptop, and every table doubles as a whiteboard. During discussions, you can see ideas written all over the tables, and nearly every wall in the room is also a whiteboard. Whenever students have ideas, they can immediately write them down and share. This creates a highly interactive and creative learning environment, supported by both the teaching staff and the facilities. Since this campus hosts only one faculty and is relatively small, it gives a strong sense of community among students who share the same interests.

📍 750 Collins Street
Next stop is 750 Collins Street, located in the Docklands area, even closer to central Melbourne. This campus is home to Monash College, which offers pathway programmes such as Foundation and Diploma, as well as English language courses. These programmes are designed to prepare students for entry into undergraduate degrees at Monash (except Medicine).
Previously, Diploma Pathway students had to study at the Clayton campus, about an hour from Melbourne CBD. But now, everything is much more convenient as all pathway programmes are located here in a modern 10-storey building.
The campus is fully equipped with up-to-date facilities, including modern classrooms, advanced learning technologies, and shared spaces for studying, socialising, and relaxing. The atmosphere feels like a stylish co-working space, very “you get what you pay for.” Students can truly make the most of the supportive environment and resources available to unlock their full potential.
🔸 Foundation and Diploma programmes are available for students who have completed Year 11 (Grade 11) or equivalent.

📍 Peninsula Campus
The next campus is Peninsula, the third-largest campus of Monash University. It is located near the sea in the Frankston area, about 55 km from Melbourne CBD, or approximately 1.5 hours by public transport. This campus is home to programmes in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Paramedicine, Occupational Therapy, Education, and Bachelor of Business Administration, with around 4,600 students. For those who prefer a smaller, close-knit community that is peaceful yet still well-equipped and convenient, this campus offers exactly that kind of atmosphere. There is also a sports centre used both as a learning and practical training facility for programmes such as Physiotherapy (ranked 29th in the world for Anatomy and Physiology by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022) and Occupational Therapy, as well as a fitness space for students and staff. The campus also provides on-campus accommodation and a shuttle bus service connecting to other campuses, such as Clayton.
For the Nursing programme, the campus features fully equipped, modern simulation labs that replicate real healthcare environments, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and build confidence before entering the workforce.

🏆 The Nursing programme is ranked 3rd in Australia and 6th in the world (Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021), and 14th in the world (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022).
The Education programmes offer options in Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, or a combined pathway through the Bachelor of Education (Honours).
🏆 The Education programme is ranked 20th in the world (Times Higher Education Rankings 2022).
For students interested in undergraduate business studies, Monash also offers the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), which focuses on practical, real-world experience to prepare students for the job market.
📍 Caulfield Campus
Next, we visited the Caulfield Campus, home to five main faculties Arts, Art, Design and Architecture, Business and Economics, Information Technology Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. This campus is located close to Melbourne CBD, taking only 15 minutes by public transport. During the visit, it happened to be Open Day, so there were many Australian high school students exploring the campus, visiting faculties, and asking questions about different programmes. Monash also took us to see StarLab – Simulated Teaching and Research Laboratory, a trading simulation lab at Monash Business School. It looked incredibly modern! Although, to be honest, I didn’t fully understand how it worked (my brain just couldn’t keep up 😅), so I can’t really explain how cool it is, but I can say that if I had to trade for real, I probably wouldn’t survive 😂 You can check it out yourself click the link!

📗 The Business and Economics programmes at Monash University are ranked in the top 1% globally for graduate employability. Monash is also the only university in the Group of Eight whose Faculty of Business and Economics holds the prestigious Triple Crown Accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA).
In addition, we had the chance to explore the facilities of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, which are equally outstanding. The faculty is ranked in the top 1% in the world for Art and Design (QS World University Rankings 2021).

📍 Clayton Campus
The final campus visited was Clayton, the main and largest campus of Monash University. It is located about 50 minutes from Melbourne CBD by train, or you can take a shuttle bus from the Caulfield campus. This campus is home to 8 faculties, including: Arts, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Information Technology, Law, Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Science There are over 24,000 students at this campus. Personally, this was my favourite, it’s spacious, filled with greenery, and has a very relaxing atmosphere that truly supports learning. Although it’s a bit further from the city, the campus itself is fully equipped with everything students need, including student accommodation, a large sports centre, and dining facilities. It’s also not far from major shopping centres like The Glen and Chadstone – The Fashion Capital.

The day I visited the Clayton campus happened to be Open Day, with all faculties open for visitors. There were so many people! One of the highlights was visiting the Faculty of Engineering, where each discipline showcased their teaching facilities and equipment in full. These included: Aerospace / Biomedical / Chemical / Civil / Electrical and Computer Systems / Environmental / Materials / Mechanical / Robotics and Mechatronics / Software Monash Engineering programmes focus on Industry-Based Learning, ensuring that students are fully prepared for the workforce after graduation.
🏆 The Engineering programme is ranked No.1 in Australia and 39th in the world (Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021).
There are also large lecture halls that can accommodate over 300 students. Seating is arranged in small groups of around 6–7 students, with tables designed as whiteboards to encourage idea sharing. Large screens are installed around the room so that every student—even those seated at the back—can clearly follow the lecture. For students interested in Data Science, AI, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business Information Technology, you’ll be studying under the Faculty of Information Technology. Monash is the only university in the Group of Eight with a dedicated IT faculty, and it is ranked in the Top 100 globally for Computer Science and Information Systems (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022).
📍 Law Chambers
The 6th campus (a bonus one, even though I didn’t get to visit it) is located at 555 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne CBD. This campus offers two programmes: Master of Laws (LLM) with 9 specialisations, including: Commercial and Corporate Law, Criminal Law and Forensics, Dispute Resolution, Global Society and Human Rights, Health Law and Community, Labour and Employment Law, Public Sector Governance and Regulation, Technology and Innovation, and Transnational Economic Regulation. Juris Doctor (JD), which is ranked among the Top 50 Law Schools in the world. Monash Law is also one of the largest law schools in Australia.
From visiting Monash during Open Day, what stood out was how many people are interested in studying here. Everyone wants to study at a university with modern facilities, hands-on learning opportunities, and industry-relevant programmes. Monash truly offers those opportunities, from up-to-date courses to real-world internship experiences, helping students become well-prepared graduates for the job market. If you choose to study here, I’d highly recommend making full use of the university’s support services, such as: Career Connect – to learn how to find jobs in Australia. Monash Connect – for support with academics, health, finances, and more.
