2) Liverpool John Moores University

Another university offering a Cosmetic Science programme is Liverpool John Moores University. Although the course name is the same as at the University of Sunderland, the course modules differ significantly. The MSc in Cosmetic Science at Liverpool John Moores University is the first programme to be accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. 3) De Montfort University

The MSc Cosmetic Science programme at De Montfort University is designed in response to modern industry demands, while also incorporating ethical and environmental perspectives. It prepares students to adapt and grow in a rapidly evolving industry.
The programme is delivered by the Faculty of Pharmacy, which has over 100 years of expertise, and combines both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training. Students will develop laboratory skills, learn research processes, and explore modern techniques used in the cosmetics industry. The course also integrates knowledge in intellectual property and business within the beauty industry, not just science.
The programme is divided into 6 blocks, each lasting 7 weeks:
- Block 1: Fundamental Principles in Cosmetic Science (30 credits)
- Block 2: Design, Formulation and Manufacture of Cosmetic Products (30 credits)
- Block 3: Cosmetics: Concept to Consumer (30 credits)
- Block 4: Research and Innovation in Cosmetic Science (30 credits)
- Block 5 & 6: Research Dissertation (60 credits)
Students typically attend classes 2–3 days per week, depending on the schedule and activities in each block. This block teaching approach allows students to focus deeply on one subject at a time. The advantage of Block Teaching is that it focuses on studying one subject at a time in depth, allowing students to fully understand the material while maintaining a better balance between academic and personal life.
