Attractions in Melbourne

Royal Botanic Gardens

One of the best gardens in the world located just 2 kilometers from the center of Melbourne. It has an area of over 38 hectares, which collects over 8,500 international plants and many rare specimens. The highlight activity here is the touring the Aboriginal Heritage Walk, a popular path to learn about the Australian heritage, and visiting the park is one of the best free activities in Melbourne.

National Gallery of Victoria

The oldest national gallery in Australia collecting more than 70,000 pieces of art. The famous spot in this place is The Great Hall, where people can lie down on the floor and look at the colorful glass ceiling above. There are also artworks from famous art like Rembrandt, Bonnard and Tiepolo, including one of the large collections of The Pioneer by Frederick McCubbin.

Brunswick Street

One of Melbourne’s famous streets, it is full of colorful and creative arts. You won’t be bored on Brunswick Street as you can see many shops such as trendy bike shop, chic hair salon and second-hand stores. If you are a fan of super heroes, you can visit fashion stores such as Gorman, Búl, Kloke and Alpha 60. This is a place where you can find vintage and 80’s clothes or good quality and chic leather bags.

Melbourne Museum and Royal Exhibition Building

You can reach here just with a short journey by tram. You will be surrounded by beautiful gardens and green spaces. This place has many collections but the highlight is the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Center and the Phar Lap show, which is about Australia’s greatest horse racing. Also, this museum is adjacent to the Royal Exhibition Building, the venue that hosts Melbourne’s international exhibitions.

Arcades and Laneways

Wander in the alleys around Flinders, Collins and Bourke Streets to give you a glimpse of another side to Melbourne. The unique area here is Block Arcade covered with Mosaic tiles and surrounded by interesting shops. Moreover, there is an area called Royal Arcade, Melbourne’s oldest and the longest standing arcade.

Chinatown

Melbourne’s Chinatown was established in 1850 and is considered as the oldest Chinatown in Australia. It is located in Little Bourke and Lonsdale streets. This lively area is full of karaoke bars, shops and many Asian restaurants where you can taste great Dim Sum. There is also a Chinese Museum to study the history of Chinese in Australia. However, if you are here at the right time you should not miss the Chinese New Year and Asian Food Festival in the spring.
