In this article, P’Aim from One Education will take you on a tour of a well-known university in Western Australia — the University of Western Australia (UWA).
The University of Western Australia is one of the top 8 research universities in Australia, part of the prestigious Group of Eight. It is located in Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, along the Swan River, which is the main river of the city. The university is also not far from Perth CBD — students can travel into the city by bus, bicycle, or car in just 10–20 minutes.
UWA is a large university with comprehensive facilities for students and staff across various faculties. With a history of over 100 years, most of its buildings are quite historic, except for the School of Engineering and Business School buildings, which have been newly built and renovated, making them more modern than others.
The campus environment is very green and peaceful, surrounded by large trees and open spaces. It offers a great atmosphere for studying, with plenty of reading spots scattered throughout the campus.

Some standout landmarks at UWA include the university art gallery, botanical gardens, the iconic clock tower at the center of campus, the Ceremony Hall, and even the resident peacocks from the School of Humanities.

Well-known faculties at UWA include the Business School, Medical School, School of Engineering, School of Social Sciences, School of Humanities, and the School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing.
UWA College (UWAC) – Pathway for International Students
UWA College (UWAC) is an institution under the University of Western Australia and is partnered with INTO, a globally recognized provider of pathway programs.
UWAC offers foundation programs specifically designed for international students who wish to continue their studies at UWA. Programs include the UWA Foundation Program and Diploma programs in fields such as Commerce, Science, Computer Science, and Data Science.

Student Accommodation at UWA

The University of Western Australia offers on-campus accommodation called College Row, which is safe and located directly opposite the main campus. Students can walk to class in just 5 minutes.
Rooms are private bedrooms, while bathrooms and kitchens are shared with other residents. The accommodation package also includes a meal plan.
About Perth

Now that you’ve learned about UWA, let’s take a closer look at Perth and whether it suits your lifestyle.
Perth is a safe, clean, and green city with a comfortable climate that is quite similar to Thailand, so students usually don’t need much time to adjust.
Although some people may think Perth is quiet, the city center is actually lively and vibrant. There are many Asian restaurants and supermarkets, as well as plenty of branded shops and malls. However, shops tend to close earlier than in Thailand, typically around 8 PM on weekdays. There are also many nice cafés, bars, and restaurants where students can hang out with friends after class or on weekends.
One major advantage of studying in Perth is the minimal time difference — Perth is only 1 hour ahead of Thailand, making it easy to stay in touch with family and friends. This is much more convenient compared to cities like Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane, which are 3–4 hours ahead.
Transportation in Perth is also convenient, with buses, trains, taxis, and Uber available. There is also a free bus service called CAT (Central Area Transit), which operates in Perth CBD, Fremantle, and Joondalup.
If you plan to use public transport regularly, it is recommended to apply for a Tertiary SmartRider card to receive student discounts.
For students who want to fly back to Thailand during holidays, there are direct flights from Perth to Bangkok, with a flight time of approximately 6 hours. Airlines include Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Scoot, and Malaysia Airlines (be sure to check if there are stopovers, as some flights may take 8–12 hours).
