University of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield began as a merger of three educational institutions in Sheffield – the Sheffield School of Medicine founded in 1828, Firth College founded in 1879, and the Sheffield Technical School founded in 1884.
In 1905, they merged to become one institution and adopted the name The University of Sheffield, making the University’s medical faculty the oldest in the UK. The University is renowned for its academic and research excellence on a global scale, with 92% of research being classified as world-leading, internationally excellent, or internationally recognized.
It is ranked 16th in the UK and 96th in the world by QS World University Rankings 2023. The University of Sheffield has over 30,000 students, including international students from over 140 countries, which contributes to its social and cultural diversity. It has been ranked among the Top 50 Most International Universities in the world by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022.

Location
The University of Sheffield is located in the city of Sheffield, situated in the central part of England. Sheffield is a city known for its abundance of trees, green areas, and public parks. It is also in close proximity to the Peak District National Park, which has earned Sheffield the recognition of being a Green City in the United Kingdom and Europe.
