Cranfield University is a postgraduate-only institution specialising in technology and management, with a strong emphasis on research and innovation in science, engineering, and business. Originally founded in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, the university has a rich heritage rooted in aviation and aerospace technology. 

During the 1950s and 1960s, Cranfield expanded its research beyond aviation into manufacturing and management. The School of Management was established in 1967, and in 1969 the institution was renamed The Cranfield Institute of Technology. The university’s first Chancellor was Lord Kings Norton. 

Today, Cranfield is recognised as a world-leading postgraduate university, dedicated to exploring how technology and management can create a better future. It is one of the largest providers of postgraduate engineering and MBA programmes in the UK and maintains close collaborations with global industries to develop innovations using the latest technology.

Campuses

Cranfield University has two campuses: 

• Main Campus 
  The main campus is located at Cranfield (Wharley End), near Milton Keynes and Bedford, just a 10-minute drive from the M1 motorway. The campus features its own airport, used for research and business visits. 

• Cranfield University Shrivenham 
  The second campus, Cranfield University Shrivenham, is based in Oxfordshire, focusing on Defence and Security studies.
