From 1st July 2023, international students who have completed higher education with eligible qualifications will receive an additional two years of work rights after their studies. Additionally, the maximum allowable work hours for international students will be raised from 40 hours to 48 hours per fortnight.
Two-year extension of post-study work rights
International graduates who have completed specific degrees in areas of skill shortage can benefit from a two-year extension of their post-study work rights. This extension will grant eligible international higher education graduates an additional two years on their Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485).
- Bachelor degree will extend from 2 years to 4 years
- Master degree will extend from 3 years to 5 years
- PhD degree will extend from 4 years to 6 years
Increase to allowable work hours for international students
The Australian government has announced an adjustment to the limit of working hours for international students. The cap will be raised from 40 to 48 hours per fortnight when it is reinstated.
